Why are the new Teslas delayed?

The head of Tesla Elon Musk explained the delay in the release of new models of the brand – in particular, the Tesla Semi electric truck. He shared the reasons on Twitter, answering a question about why PepsiCo expects the Semi to be shipped by the end of the year, although the start of production was officially postponed to 2022. Musk asked not to attach much importance to PepsiCo’s announcement, but also talked about the challenges Tesla is facing.

According to Musk, the company is currently unable to produce “additional cars in large quantities.” Like most automakers in the world, Tesla has to cope with a shortage of electronic components and adjust production plans. In Tesla’s case, the situation is aggravated by problems with the supply of batteries.

To mitigate the damage, Tesla has expanded its list of EV battery suppliers. In addition to Panasonic, the company has entered into delivery contracts with LG Energy Solution and CATL, and has begun its own development of battery cells.

The Tesla Semi electric truck was introduced back in 2017, but has not yet entered the conveyor: the manufacturer hopes to launch the mass assembly of the model no earlier than 2022. However, the head of PepsiCo said last week that he expects the first Semi deliveries in the fourth quarter of this year.

Although it is definitely an unfinished replica, I would be interested in contact details, anyway. Maybe this could be an interesting project.
