The new battery-powered SUV was equipped with only one trunk: it is in the traditional place behind the rear row of seats. Lyriq rivals have two trunks, but Cadillac decided to abandon the front luggage compartment.
The Cadillac Lyriq concept car debuted late last summer. The show car surprised the audience with its futuristic design, which was adopted by the production version of the electric crossover. And not without some changes.
So, it was decided to increase the glazing area, and the cameras had to be abandoned in favor of traditional rear-view mirrors. And the serial electrocross received more compact wheels. The show car did not have a front trunk, and it never appeared on the serial electric car. Everything would be fine, but the main competitors of the novelty have such an advantage. The front rack is offered to potential buyers by the Audi E-Tron, Tesla Model Y, Jaguar I-Pace and others. This feature of the Cadillac Lyriq was explained by chief project engineer Jamie Brewer.
According to him, it’s all about a fundamentally different layout of the crossover. The decision was made to give all the useful volume to the rear luggage compartment to make it the most spacious in the segment – 793 liters.
And if you fold the rear row of seats, this figure rises to 1,722 liters.
For comparison, the E-Tron boasts 1,600 liters and the I-Pace 1,444 liters. The front rack adds 60 liters to the Audi crossover, while the Jaguar model adds an additional 27 liters.
The Cadillac Lyriq series will be released in early 2022, but the brand’s customers will be able to pre-order at the end of 2021.
