Two years will pass before the market debut of the new GMC Hummer EV. During the presentation, it became known that the three-engine power plant of the novelty demonstrates less recoil than the pickup, presented back in the fall of 2020.
Recall that the electric pickup, according to the assurances of the developers, is capable of delivering 1000 horsepower. The SUV boasts a more modest figure of 830 hp. What is the reason, said GMC Hummer EV chief engineer Al Oppenheiser in an interview published by Muscle Cars & Trucks. According to him, it’s all about the design.
The SUV’s wheelbase is 9 inches shorter than the pickup (overall 20 inches shorter), which means fewer battery packs and modules are built into the GM Ultium modular platform. Hence the less return.
Installing additional batteries would negatively affect the cargo space, the specialist continued.
For an SUV with such impressive off-road performance, the declared power will be sufficient. At the same time, the shorter overall length has its advantages: better handling and maneuverability.
