Why reinvent the wheel? You can also reinvent the Focus ST

Ford is completing work on its first electric vehicle based on the Volkswagen MEB architecture. Previously, it was seen as a clay model, and today the designers presented a render of an electric vehicle based on reports and rumors. A compact crossover based on Mach-E will keep the Focus ST Spirit alive.

It is known that the new Ford is likely to share the wheelbase with the Volkswagen ID.4, which measures about 2.8 meters from axle to axle. This figure is slightly higher than that of the latest Ford Focus. Based on the European version of the Puma ST, this mini Mustang Mach-E is expected to serve as a replacement for the high-performance Focus ST.

As for the power plant, it will probably use one of the variants of the Volkswagen ID.3 / ID.4 electric motors, which means 58 and 77 kWh batteries, offering a range of up to 570 km, as well as rear – and all-wheel drive layout. If the power output matches, then it will be approximately 150 and 200 hp. In VW, this battery takes about 30 minutes to last for 320 km. Something similar is expected at Ford.

For the front of the render, the artists used mostly Mustang Mach-E replicas in the grille and headlights, while the lower fog lights and air intakes were taken from the Puma crossover. Based on spy shots, the new car will be a bit “boxier” than the Mach-E, so the render shows a more angular rear end with a sloping roof, different from the “fastback” style.

If this car did arrive in the US, one would assume it would get an ID.4 GTX electric motor as an option to suit local taste preferences, which puts out 302 horsepower sent to all four wheels. The car will be launched in 2023, which means that the preview will take place at the end of next year.
