BMW’s new flagship M-crossover debuted in mid-November, at the same time rumors about its name were confirmed: contrary to expectations, the new product received the XM index, not X8. The British edition Autocar asked the representatives of the Bavarian brand for clarification, to which they replied that it would be “wrong” to hang the X8 nameplate on the future rival of the Cayenne Turbo SE Hybrid. The head of BMW M, Frank van Meel, turned out to be very short and said literally the following: “This is XM. This is X and this is M “.
In fact, the name XM seems logical: the new model is not just another BMW SUV, which has an M version, such as the X4 M and X6 M. x years, as well as the first M-hybrid, although this is not reflected in the name.
The XM is known to be manufactured at the Spartanburg, South Carolina plant, with full assembly due by the end of 2022. It was also previously reported that the production version will repeat the concept of the same name by 90 percent. First of all, we are talking about two-story optics, unusual for BMW, with narrow “eyebrows” of the navigation lights and the main headlights under tinted glass in angular niches.
The hybrid power crossover consists of a V8 petrol turbo engine working in tandem with an electric motor. Their combined output is 750 horsepower, and the maximum torque is 1000 Nm. The declared power reserve on one electricity is 80 kilometers.
Meanwhile, the German edition of AutoBild expects that the X8 crossover will still appear in the BMW lineup. According to unconfirmed reports, a car with this name may debut as early as 2022.
